Elegantly wire-wrapped stone pendants feature stone unique to the Keweenaw Peninsula and the Lake Superior and Copper Country regions. Some of the favorites are Datolite, Thomsonite, Prehnite, Firebrick, Mohawkite, and Copper Replacement Agates. Also see our featured category for Lake Superior Agate pendants and the Greenstone pendants. The Copper Country in the northernmost part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula yields some of the most unique gemstones, each related in its own way to the copper origins. Our Firebrick jewelry reflects the historic copper industry that created such a mining rush in the 1800's. Our Datolite, Mohawkite, and Copper Replacement Agate jewelry are made with gemstones not found anywhere else on earth in these forms, and are unique to very small localities where they originated. Families of miners treasure our jewelry reminding them of their family involvement in certain mines. Prehnite can be pink or green and may have streaks or bits of copper imbedded in the stones, and may be found on old mine dump piles or on beaches. Thomsonite is primarily found on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota, but some good stones have also been found in the Keweenaw Peninsula. We make our favorites into quality jewelry with great heirloom value.

Firebrick is an historic material once a part of smelting furnaces in Michigan's Copper Country. Copper infused into the surrounding brick as it was melted, and today we use this material to make shiny coppery jewelry distinctive to the Keweenaw Peninsula. Our Firebrick pendants are elegantly wire wrapped with top-quality 14/20 yellow gold, pink gold, and tarnish-resistant argentium silver wires. With the trends featuring copper jewelry, these are popular colors, of finest metals.
An unusual mineral found only in the Mohawk area of the Keweenaw Peninsula in the northern part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Mohawkite makes a wonderful jewelry feature stone. A silvery shine, or rainbow effect makes this stone really shine when polished and treated. The shimmery metallic look combines with a white quartz background to provide contrast and neutral colors that wear well with everything. Our Mohawkite jewelry is elegantly wire wrapped in 14/20 yellow or pink gold and tarnish-resistant argentium silver. Mohawkite is a treasured reminder of the Copper Country mining history, and makes an excellent jewelry gift for people associated with the area.
Prehnite stones from the Lake Superior area can vary from apple green with copper inclusions, to pink and dark green similar in appearance to Thomsonite, in fact the pink and green stone used to be referred to as UP Thomsonite. Prehnite can also be almost brown and white. Pebbles found in the Keweenaw Peninsula may be turned into beautiful jewelry pieces. Nuggets can be found in the water, on the beach or even in hills overlooking the lake, where they look totally different from their polished version. We sort through lots of stone to select interesting pieces for our jewelry which is then elegantly wire wrapped in 14/20 yellow or pink gold and tarnish-resistant argentium silver. Apple green prehnite with bits of copper laced through it, or pink pebbles, both make terrific reminders of the Copper Country.
Datolite is a signature mineral of the Keweenaw Peninsula and Copper Country of Upper Michigan. It is found in old mine piles by keen-eyed rock hunters. Found as a nodule, the outside appearance is usually gray or reddish, but gives few clues to the inside appearance which may be white, pink, red, yellow, orange, blue, or green, and may have copper inclusions. Some mines, such as the Mesnard, Quincy, Franklin, Centennial, Ojibway, have distinctive characteristic colors. Datolite takes a nice shine and makes interesting jewelry distinctive to Michigan's Copper Country. Our pendants are elegantly wire wrapped with top-quality 14/20 yellow gold, pink gold, and tarnish-resistant argentium silver wires.
Copper-replacement Agates are a recent hit in the Keweenaw Peninsula area. They were found in only two main locations, and vary widely in the appearance and amount of Copper. Our Copper Agate jewelry is elegantly wire wrapped in 14/20 yellow or pink gold and tarnish-resistant argentium silver.
Thomsonite is a highly coveted jewelry stone primarily from the north shore of Lake Superior. Dark green and pink share the glory in obicular eye-like patterns and radianting fan-shaped sprays. Formed in small holes in volcanic basalts, stones have a rounded nodule form and are tricky to remove from the host rock without cracking. A hardness of 5-5.5, it often has broken bits that make an interesting look with a dark point surrounded by radiating pale pink. A rare zeolite, it is now difficult to find and is treasured for unique hand-crafted jewelry. Our thomsonite pendants are elegantly wire wrapped with top-quality 14/20 yellow gold, pink gold, and tarnish-resistant argentium silver wires. They make superior gifts and keepsakes reminding owners of Lake Superior's shores.
