Luckily Lake Superior doesn't exactly have hurricanes, but the copper swirls around a white eye in this stone, making it look like a hurricane of copper. Coming from Michigan's Copper District, this copper agate really speaks of the Keweenaw area and reminds you of the history. Sometimes copper agates are a bit short on copper, but not this one. One of the many unusual and rare gemstones occurring in Michigan's Copper Country is the copper replacement agate. These unusual agates from the Kearsarge lode never cease to amaze and surprise when they are cut open from dark green nodules found by careful searching in certain areas near Calumet. Many of the banded agates at these locations have some banding replaced by copper. These agates have become coveted within the last few years.
Here is a substantial beautifully banded copper agate from the Kearsarge Lode in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Peninsula Michigan. Copper Agates are becoming more rare and valuable as time goes on. This stone is stylishly wrapped in yellow and pink gold giving it a rich and classy look. The pink gold accents the copper banding of the agate.
The original stone was cut into a handsome designer shape and the copper is sealed making it resistant to tarnish. The rear of the stone is worked minimally so the owner can show and enjoy the look of the stone before its secrets were uncovered.
