Do you love unique jewelry from special places? This Datolite is a creamy beauty from the once bustling Delaware Copper Mine area which is now little more than a tiny ghost town.
The old mine waste piles in the Keweenaw are rapidly disappearing, being crushed up for road fill. The Delaware mine pile is now gone. Many fine Datolites were dug from this pile over the years. It was always a treat to see what rock hounds were finding at the Delaware, because the skin did not indicate what the inside color would be. When you cut a Datolite open and find a beautiful pale yellow, you knew you had something special. This is one of those special gemstones. A medium size, delicately wrapped in 24-gauge gold and argentium wires. This perfectly matches the delicate creamy yellow color of the stone.
Delaware Datolites have always been prized and collectable. Add to this the historic significance of the mine, and the coveted yellow color of this Datolite, and you have a wonderful gemstone piece of Michigan Copper Country history.
