Keweenaw Nuggets Greenstone and Copper Pendant

Nice larger Greenstones are getting ever more scarce, as the spoil piles continue to be hauled away for road fill. Fortunately I still have a large stash of bigger Greenstones left from my mining efforts a decade or two ago. Back in the day it was not uncommon to find or extract bigger Greenstone Nuggets out of the host rock, at most of the old mine dumps.

The large, almost Quarter-sized Greenstone in the pendant was extracted from a host rock in the old Mandan Pit. This pairing of these two stones, Greenstone (22mm x 17mm), and Copper (25mm x 14mm)really worked good together. The Copper stone is mixed with chlorite, setting it off brilliantly. 

Wire work is brilliant yellow gold and pink gold, with a distinctive setting that really highlights the stones. The combination wires really pick up the copper colors, and give a regal look to these two earthy stones.

Greenstone is the common name for chlorastrolite (chlor meaning green, astro meaning star). Chlorastrolite is the state gem of Michigan, found only in small areas of the Keweenaw Peninsula, and on Isle Royale.

You really have a Copper Country treasure in this Pendant; Michigan's State Gemstone and the Copper that historically made the Keweenaw what it is.
