Rutile stars are so sought after, and when I discovered one in a vendor’s stash at the Tucson Gem Shows, I did a double take. I added it to a small selection of cabochons I had already chosen. I have had a very few of these over the years. Everyone seems to want one and I know if I had not been there first thing, some other jewelry maker would have had this one. Full six-starred Rutile is quite rare. I usually see partial stars or fewer ribbons in the cross patterns.
Rutile is a Titanium Ore and appears as stick-like crystals often included in Quartz. Ribbon Stars of Rutile sometimes also appear in Quartz, but are far less common than other species of Rutilated Quartz. The center of the star is Hematite. When the rear of the stone has other inclusions they can be referred to as Lodalite.
This star just shimmers and shines within its’ Quartz Caccoon. The dark background in the gemstone further enhances the rich golden star.
Wrapped in 14/20 rolled gold wire, this little stunner shines in crystal and gold. You will sparkle with with beauty!
